"For God is my witness, whom I serve with my spirit in the gospel of his Son, that without ceasing I mention you always in my prayers, asking that somehow by God's will I may now at last succeed in coming to you.  For I long to see you, that I may impart to you some spiritual gift to strengthen you - that is, that we may be mutually encouraged by each other's faith, both yours and mine."  Romans 1: 9-12

Paul begins his letter to the Romans by confessing his great desire to see them.  He has been praying for an opportunity to visit even though this is not a church he planted, simply because he knows how important fellowship is in the Kingdom of God for the building up of the saints.  He goes on to say how he has been prevented thus far from being able to visit, but God does grant his request two years later.  He has the opportunity to go to Rome but as a prisoner.  If I were Paul I'm sure I'd be making a mental note to be more specific the next time I ask God for something.   But the Lord had Paul right where he wanted him not only for the advancing of His kingdom but for Paul's own spiritual journey as well.  What struck me about this passage was that Paul was praying for an opportunity.  I began to wonder how often I pray for opportunity, whether it be to show God's kindness to someone, or like Paul, for an opportunity to be encouraged and fellowship with strong believers?

I am excited to say that the Lord has answered my prayer for an opportunity to return to Tanzania!  I went with KidZ at Heart two years ago in the summer of 2015 and will be going again this coming June.  I am so thankful that, despite a move to Hawaii in the middle, God has provided a way for me to go!  I am also so very excited that my sister will be joining us on this year's trip!  I look forward to being able to share with you all of the details as we prepare. We are still looking for team members so if you are wanting to go let me know!

Furthermore, the Lord has answered many prayers for opportunity for our work in El Salvador.  Our team just returned home with such exciting news!  This trip marked a very important event for KidZ at Heart.  Our President and co-founder, Gordon and Becki West along with other team members and staff met with the president of the Evangelical University of El Salvador to sign an official partnership, for joint ventures in equipping teachers, parents, and church leaders to effectively reach and teach their children.  Some of the country's leading organizations (World Vision, Compassion, etc.) were also present to see how they can partner with KidZ at Heart as well.  It was the culmination of several years of hard work and the beginning of many wonderful partnerships to benefit the children of El Salvador.  (Read the quick trip update from our President here.  It's worth the click!)

Prayer Update:

  • Pray for good communication and unity in the partnership with the University in El Salvador, and wisdom with further partnerships with non-government organizations in the country.
  • Pray for discernment for my department as we begin designing the online classes that will be used by so many, including the University in El Salvador.
  • Pray for wisdom for Max and I as we begin to plan and make decisions about our move to Hawaii!

"I thank my God through Jesus Christ for all of you, because your faith is proclaimed in all the world."
