Equipping people to reach and teach kids for Christ within their own culture

Gordon & Becki – KidZ Newsletter December 2017

We have exciting news to share! KidZ at Heart International has just signed a “memorandum of understanding” (commonly known as an MOU) with Hope International University in Fullerton, California. Together, we will be creating and administering an online Children’s Ministry Leadership Certificate as part of Hope’s School of Advanced Leadership Training (SALT) program.

Wikipedia defines MOU as “an agreement between two…or more….parties (that)… expresses a convergence of will between the parties, indicating an intended common line of action.” The Scriptures define this as the body of Christ working together to build the kingdom of God!

As the MOU says: “Hope International University (HIU) and KidZ at Heart (KidZ):

  • Share a common commitment to impact the world for Christ;
  • Share a common desire to equip emerging leaders with the knowledge and skill necessary for effective and relevant ministry.”

Each of the more than 40 countries in which KidZ ministers requires an understanding of its unique culture, needs, and challenges. Our work in the United States requires no less discernment.

Those who seek training in the U.S. are very busy (often too busy) and need to be equipped in creative ways. Offering online training for today’s leaders in the U.S. is one solution. KidZ is now re-working all of our equipping materials to be presented digitally. In cooperation with HIU, these classes will be able to be accessed by a variety of people, in multiple locations, and on individualized schedules.

KidZ/HIU Children’s Ministry Leadership courses will also meet a number of needs. A student may choose to take one or more courses just for his own growth as a children’s ministry leader. Or she can take classes towards earning a KidZ at Heart Children’s Ministry Teacher Certificate or an HIU SALT Certificate in Children’s Ministry Leadership. Students may even take courses towards an undergraduate or graduate degree program, since HIU is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC).

At the same time, the KidZ team is working hard to use creative new digital tools in ways that keep the KidZ DNA intact. We are excited to be discovering ways to put KidZ training online while still maintaining a relational style, modeling appropriate teaching techniques, and weaving Christian spiritual formation throughout all we do.

Would you join us in doing two things?

First, please pray for the leaders involved in this new partnership: HIU’s Steve Alley and Joe Grana and KidZ at Heart’s Valorie Eddy and Janet Anthony. Please pray especially for Aubrey Van Benthem (Director of Instructional Design from Jacksonville Beach, FL), one of our newest staff members, who is directly responsible for tackling this migration to online education. She is doing an incredible job!

Second, consider if you should be one of our first students! Or maybe you are the one to suggest this program to a leader at your church who would benefit from the training.

Questions? Ask Vice President of North American Ministries, Janet Anthony.
