“Through the praise of children and infants you have established a stronghold against your enemies, to silence the foe and the avenger.” ~Psalm 8:2 NIVUK
I didn’t think that the student which God was drawing me towards would only be ten years old! I entered the church sanctuary that Tuesday morning. Then seeing this young boy already prepared for worship in the KidZ Nepal Training Class, I knew God was doing something special.
He had apparently come along with some other boys which looked to be a few years older than himself. They all gathered enthusiastically and started singing to the worship songs before the morning session was about to begin.
I had been drawn to this young boy by seeing him with his Bible and participant's guidebook which was given to each student and participate that morning. I wondered, is he just attending the KidZ Ministry Certification Program Training because his mother was there and no one was at home to take care of him?
I was so eager to know why he was attending the KidZ Training. I asked him why he had come. Then I received an amazing answer. The young boy said, "Uncle, I am here to learn how to teach children about God’s Holy Word and miracles!"
This young boy, named Risen, and I sat talking. I asked him, who’s choice was it for you to come to the training, (your moms or yours). He quickly replied, it was my choice! He explained further about why his mother allowed him to come. I have one week of holidays from school, and my mom said if you want to go to the KidZ at Heart Training, it’s good.
As a pastor and parent of a young fourteen-year-old boy, this is what any good Christian parent would love to hear their child say!
The next scripture which comes to me says, Do you hear what these children are saying?
“But when the chief priests and the teachers of the law saw the wonderful things he did and the children shouting in the temple courts, ‘Hosanna to the Son of David,’ they were indignant. ‘Do you hear what these children are saying?’ they asked him. ‘Yes,’ replied Jesus, ‘have you never read, ‘From the lips of children and infants you, Lord, have called forth your praise?’” ~Matt. 21:15-16 NIVUK
I continued asking my questions - he was so eager to share his love for the Lord Jesus Christ! He wanted to share miracles, so I asked if he was talking about the miracles in his life or the miracles in the Bible. He replied, "Miracles in the Bible." We chatted about Jesus' first miracle. Imagine if more children, like Risen, were impacted by our Heavenly Father.
He has already received the seeds sown from God’s Holy Word and they have been planted into his life at an early age!
“Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it.” ~Prov. 22:6 NIVUK
The next time I had a chance to sit with my new friend was at midpoint the next day during the break time of the morning sessions. We both sat together drinking our Nepali milk tea. Now I had learned about the others who had also come with Risen. The main adult was actually a second year student who attended last year’s KidZ at Heart Teacher’s Certificate Program and finished Modules 1-4. Susana is the Teacher in Risen’s church class on Saturday morning (as the church in Nepal worship on Saturday as the Lord’s day) and Risen is an assistant for the class.
I asked Risen, so what do you actually do to help your teacher in the church classroom. He says, when the teacher is absent, then he will teach the children. Now I am pretty sure he means he will be an assistance to his teacher (which he does) but he actually teaches the other children who are younger than him and also his own age.
The day before we held the KidZ at Heart Ministry Teacher’s Certificate Program. I asked if we could make visit to Risen’s church on the coming Saturday morning and we were so excited to go visit the Pratigya Jeevan Baptist Church were we seen first hand and experience - children teaching children! The personal experience of seeing, “the church of today activity involved with the ministry”, was a once in a lifetime experience! I hope not! Children are our future...and the church of today! I am sure that there are more young boys like Risen!
We need to have an open heart and watchful eyes for the Lord to show us where these young boys and girls are waiting for people like you and I to encourage them to follow their God given dreams and to be used by God in a powerful way!
Because of your prayers, encouragement and support, the children’s ministry leaders of Nepal were blessed! Thank you very much for your obedience and generosity to send us to Nepal once again!
Because of friends and praying partners like you, in the last three years (2016, 2017, and 2018) KidZ Nepal Teams have been able to teach more than 300 leaders, teachers, and believers from 34 churches in Pokahara and Kathmandu, Nepal.
Thanks from the Nepal Team 2018!
